Dunwoody Receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

The City of Dunwoody has earned the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting for the 10th year.

The City of Dunwoody has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the current budget from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). It is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting.

“Only 37 governments in the state of Georgia received this budget award last year, and that includes state agencies, county and city governments,” said Dunwoody Accounting Manager Aleksandar Dimov. Georgia has 159 counties and almost 600 cities that can apply for the award.

Dunwoody has earned this recognition every year since incorporation. This is the city’s 10th Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.

“Wow!” said Dunwoody Mayor Denis Shortal during Monday’s City Council meeting. “Congratulations to our finance team. Let’s keep up the great work.”

In order to receive the budget award, Dunwoody had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations document and communications device.

GFOA was founded in 1906 and represents public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada. The association’s more than 20,000 members are federal, state/provincial, and local finance officials deeply involved in planning, financing, and implementing thousands of governmental operations in each of their jurisdictions. GFOA’s mission is to advance excellence in public finance.
